I hopped on to the city sightseeing bus on Union Square, then the tour started. Everything was going well, though some chairs are wet coz it drizzled in the morning. The bus follow a number of stops or stations. Then goes to South Vista Point, I did not know or I was just not paying attention to the driver that there was a bus waiting at South Vista Point that will take us to the other side of the bridge which is the north vista point. Instead I walked across the bridge at 10am foggy and cold. I enjoyed the walk though. So, anyways when I reached the other side (North Vista Point) I was waiting for the tour bus that says "City Sightseeing San Francisco" for 2 hours, but there was no bus. I called the company using the phone number on their website. It took me 10+ calls before someone actually answered. Then I found out that the it will be a different bus / tour bus that will take you so Sausalito. The bus is like a single trolley that is says City Tours by Gray Line. It will take you to Sausalito, and the bus will come every after 30mins that will take you back to the south vista point. Then hop on unto a different bus that will go around San Francisco City to finish the tour. But, you still have option to hop off every station the bus will stop, if you want to see some of the places there, and when you're done go back to the same station to hop on and go to the next stop. I never had enough time coz I wasted it waiting for the bus at north vista point. I was not able to check out Haight Street and Mission District. Probably next time. Bottom line, it was fun love the experience crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. Just hope the tour bus company was able to provide me/ us complete and clear info about how the tour will go.
Do not take this tour. We boarded at Fisherman's Warf and our first guide was a woman who could not be heard. We then went on to cross the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and it was so freezing cold and windy that we had to sit on the floor. They don't tell you that when you book the tour including Sausalito you will be shuttled to a totally open trolley, and that the conditions are so bad. After crossing back we again changed buses. We were so cold that we sat on the first floor - which had no windows to view anything. Our guide this time was frightening. he shouted the whole time about his political views as well as telling falsehoods about San Francisco. It does not cost $50 to enter the deYoung Museum, there is no $50 charge to cross the Golden Gate if you miss the toll plaza...it costs $6.75. And there are no rows and rows of $40 and $50 million homes. We exited the tour as early as we could, and were happy not to spend any more time. We spoke with some people who tried to"hop on, hop off" who had to wait hours for the next bus.
Visited for 1 day and wanted to see as much as we could in a day and the tour bus was best way. Several routes included we did city red tour and purple tour over the bridge. Loads of buses so didn’t have to wait too long and there was a good informative commentary, with some tours having live guides. As always a top tour and great way to see the city.
This is a simple way of seeing San Francisco, which personally I didn't think met the hype. Very informative and reasonable value for money. However, it wasn't clear we needed to get the online voucher printed and then scanned and reprinted for tickets to be printed - which were never checked - this was time consuming and unnecessary and led to one particularly patronising staff member getting some direct feedback; this got the journey off to a bd start. Be clearer about what customers are expected to do and stop creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
I was horribly disappointed by the entire experience. The first two buses we caught (one at Union Sq at 9AM) did not have guides, as advertised on the website. Half of the headphone jacks didn’t work, so we ended up sharing headphones. The buses were running much closer to 30 minutes than the advertised 15. Then when we took the bus leaving the pier, they told us we had to get off and check into the office several blocks away. How dumb is that! Then when we get back to the bus, we had to go into an office (after waiting in yet another line) and get the “bar code read”. Dumbest practice I can imagine, and extremely inconvenient for the customers. Overall, it was a terrible experience. I am planning to tell everyone I know.
I had one day (alone) to see San Francisco and took the Official City Tour and then the Sausalito Tour. I wasn't going to do both, but as it pans out I had time to do both and it was worth it. I really enjoyed the hop on hop off tour it was great value for your money and I got to see everything I wanted.
They'll tell you that you'll never wait more than 20 or 30 minutes at any stop. But we were waiting over an hour at one stop (eventually took an Uber), and 40 minutes at another. Meanwhile, we watched many, many Big Bus tours go by. Save yourself frustration, and go with that company or some other.
I had one day (alone) to see San Francisco and took the Official City Tour and then the Sausalito Tour. I wasn't going to do both, but had such a great time on the city tour that I booked the Sausalito one and got amazing pictures and videos. Awesome tour guide, BB Hayes, had the full attention of the bus with non-stop laughter, took the time to learn about the passengers and was there to take any photo of you (a big plus). I think he is also a DJ? The microphone stopped working on the tour but BB Hayes was able to save the day and we were all able to hear him with no problem. City tours, give this man a raise and a better microphone!
